Attorney Alex Booker, on joining Nonprofits Counsel

One need not look hard to see that the U.S. government is retreating from its responsibilities at home and abroad. The current administration knows that the bridge is closed, but it keeps pushing the train forward.

For decades, nonprofit organizations have filled the gaps in education, health, economic development, and countless other areas. Today, they are no longer just partners to government—they are, for many, the only lifeline. They are the strongest allies for families moving forward and becoming the last defenders of our highest ideals.

Losing my role in government service was devastating. But I can think of no greater calling than to support the mission-driven leaders who give nonprofits their power—offering counsel as they confront historic challenges, stay true to their missions, and continue to serve their communities with resolve.

That is why I am deeply honored and excited to begin working for and with my friend, Lauren Koster, at Nonprofits Counsel. If the train must change course, nonprofits will be the ones to build the switch. My purpose is to advise their work, so they can keep doing what they do best: delivering good work, done well.
